The DME is unhappy with intake camshaft position or its Vanos control. On the N14 it is worth evaluating only once the engine runs, because crank/cam synchronization problems produce it as a side effect.

Common causes on MINI

• Timing chain stretch
• Intake Vanos solenoid or oil supply restriction
• Camshaft sensor wiring or sensor fault
• Crank/cam synchronization loss from a crank signal problem
